Dinner @ The Bauer Kitchen

I'm very very behind in blogging because of exams and a recent trip to Australia (posts to follow!!!) But now that I'm back to reality, I'll work harder to keep up with posting. The Bauer Kitchen is one of my favourite restaurants in Waterloo, but oddly enough, I've only been here for lunch and never dinner. So when my boyfriend visited me during my exam period, I took the opportunity to enjoy a nice dinner at The Bauer Kitchen (and to slack off from studying!)

I ordered a Cali Burger, with cheddar, crispy lonza, onion sprouts, avocado, pickled jalapeño, mayo, smoked tomatoes on a Bauer Bakery bun ($14.95). I chose a Caesar salad as my side.

I think the patty itself was a little too dense, and I wished that the bun was softer. That said, I really enjoyed the combination of all the toppings, especially the heat from the jalapeños.

Jeremy went for the 8 oz grain & corn fed flat iron steak, served with sweet potato fries ($22.95). I had two pieces of the steak and thought it was delicious- juicy and tender. And sweet potato fries always please me!

We couldn't make up our mind for dessert, so we decided to try the sweet plate TBK ($14.95) which included mini versions of three of their desserts. From left to right- stacked chocolate cake, pumpkin cheesecake, and coffee crème brûlée. My least favourite was the chocolate cake with white and deep Bavarian chocolate, rich chocolate brownie, chocolate glaze, and Bailey's anglaise. Altogether, it was just too sweet and heavy for my liking.

My favourite was the pumpkin cheesecake, which featured a ginger snap crust, salted walnuts and caramel sauce. As well, the crème brûlée was rich and velvety with strong flavours of espresso, but the portion might have been too small compared to the accompanying towering piece of triple nut biscotti. All in all, it was a good meal, and I was very happy to have a delicious escape from exam studying.
