Brunch @ Congee Wong

Every now and then, I feel incredibly guilty for always spending so much on food, so I would go to a cheap place like Congee Wong. In fact, I really like enjoying a Chinese-style brunch here, where I can have a very satisfying meal at a ridiculously reasonable price (a bowl of plain congee costs less than $2). This is congee with pork and preserved egg, one of my favourite combinations. However, I didn't think it warranted the extra $2 premium, so I shall stick with the usual plain congee next time.
Another brunch favourite: dough fritter rice noodle roll. Not as refined as those served at dim sum restaurants, and I prefer a higher rice noodle roll to bread stick ratio. But again, the portion is very generous here.
One thing I love here is the Singaporean fried chili turnip patties. Love Congee Wong's execution- perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, and melt-in-your-mouth tender inside. Bits of fried egg, chicken, scallops, diced garlic and chives are aromatic and flavourful additions to the turnip patties. I also like to punch up the heat with a dash of chili oil. At the end of the meal, I was very happy that everything was so tasty and cheap, and I even had leftovers to pack home!
