Brunch @ The Hoof Cafe

I've heard so much about The Hoof Cafe in the past year that I really couldn't wait to try it out. Finally, the opportunity came! We got there quite early in hopes of avoiding a brunch line. Although the restaurant was full when we arrived, we were very lucky to get a nice seat for 2 in a matter of minutes. The place is charmingly quaint and tiny, and yes, brown sugar cubes just made it that much better.
We start with bone marrow doughnuts, only available on weekends. People seem to think that the addition of bone marrow made these doughnuts super soft inside. I, on the other hand, wasn't overly impressed. Don't get me wrong, they tasted delicious (as most fresh piping hot doughnuts do), but I just didn't think they were outstanding. But perhaps my palate just needs more refinement...
Between my friend and I, we split two items. One was the impossibly decadent Brioche French Toast with Foie Gras. I'm really not the biggest fan of foie gras, and I think the dish would've been perfectly enjoyable (and half as expensive) without it. However, I do not regret our decision to add foie gras, as it was definitely a worthwhile gastronomic experience. On another note, I absolutely adored the accompanying apple slaw. It injected some much needed freshness to such a heavy treat. 
Tongue Grilled Cheese was also a hit. The tongue was sliced thin and incredibly flavourful. The bits of dill in the meat really added a dimension to the flavour combination of the buttery sandwich. Even the pickle (which I usually dislike) was delicious! I can eat this any day!
It was a very memorable meal. We can't wait to try the Black Hoof across the street!
